Breathtaking experience!

Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa is an exceptional luxury resort with a very interesting golf course – Pezula Championship Course. Be prepared for a very memorable experience.

The scenery is stunning with the Indian Ocean on one side, Knysna Lagoon and Knysna on the other. The golf course is in superb condition down to the finest detail.

The holes are nicely separated from each other and the variations of the holes are interesting. You’ll find highly elevated tees and greens, which makes it a challenge to figure out the right distance. Ball position off tee is crucial and the other key components are is club choice; know the distance to where you want to hit your ball and know the distance of your clubs.

You’ll most likely have some kind of wind as well, which makes the equation even more difficult. We had a 3 to 4 club wind.

Regardless of the weather conditions, you’ll have an enjoyable challenge that will test every club in your bag

The holes that stand out for me are:

Hole 5 – 180 meters par 3

A real test! This long par 3 also has a huge landing area to accept the extra club. 3 bunkers are also protecting the left hand side. Make a birdie and you have done extremely well. 3-iron 8 meters behind flag, two putt for a par.

Hole 10 – 350 meters par 4

Real option golf - the safe drive to the top right landing area also gives the best view for two (longer though). A tiger line to the left will leave an uphill "flip" shot. Highly elevated tee and you don’t want to be short, or left or long! Fairway wood to the upper right fairway, 5-iron on the uphill to the right, chip to short and 10 meters from hole, two putt for a bogey 5.

Hole 13 – 467 meters par 5

This amazing par 5 drops 200ft so let your ego and your drive fly towards the ocean in the background! This one is measured in "airtime". Your level or uneven lie will determine your second shot selection. Oh, yeah! Don't forget to look back to the tee when you finish the hole – stunning. 250 meters drive down the left side of fairway, 4-iron in the left semi rough, 40 meters pitch to 5 meters from hole, missed birdie putt for a par.

Hole 14 – 275 meters hole 4

All about ball position! This drivable dogleg right par 4, Pezula's signature hole, will provide more lasting memories with a proper lay-up. The scenery (Indian Ocean and cliffs) behind the green is amazing - bring your camera. Fairway wood on the left side of fairway, great position, 8-iron to 6 meters from hole, missed birdie put for a par. well played.

I did play the course twice. The first day in drizzling (heavy from time to time) rain and wind. I must have been the only crazy person playing that day. Good timing from my friends, Michael & Colin, who joined my on day 2 and not on the first. Day two was providing 3 to 4 club wind and sunshine. Despite the wind we all where delivering some OK scores. I shot a 38 on the front nine, followed by a 40 on the back for a total of 78 shots (gross). I’m very pleased with this score.

Michael (Irish) and Colin (South African) are two great fun guys to play golf with and I had a very memorable day – Thanks guys.

The entire experience at Pezula was an extremely enjoyable and memorable one. The golf was very interesting and challenging. Put Pezula Championship Course on your list of courses to play in South Africa.
